But we work, and have clients, across the UK and we develop, market, implement and support closely with our Housing Application partners which include Capita, SDM, Orchard andothers to enable our technology in a "plug-n-play" architecture for Social Landlords.

Research - Why SMS Text for Social Housing?


In 2004, Deeplake staff carried out a research project with the National Housing Federation looked at using software to streamline business processes to improve customer service, taking 9 months and involving 30 Housing Associations and ALMO's across the UK. The results were presented in September 2005 at the NHF Board Members Conference. The overwhelming conclusions of the report were:

  • Social Landlords can reduce costs by £200 per tenant per annum with the use of SMS and email, replacing letters and phone calls.

  • Simple SMS gateway functionality has benefit, but much less so than if linked with Business Processes and existing Applications.

  • Demographic Trends strongly support the use of SMS with Tenants.

  • Tenants like to use SMS and email, and find this more convenient to access and respond to than letters.

  • The use of SMS in older people is rapidly becoming commonplace.

  • SMS and email are not suitable for every type of communication.

  • Widespread use of SMS introduces new management challenges, and requires new ways of looking at tenant communication.


The result of the findings was CMGR, an application that integrates with existing Housing Management Systems and allows automated 2-way SMS communication for a variety of tenant transactions, including surveys.This has now developed to the current release CMGR V5 - a full Microsoft .NET/SQL application bringing new levels of functionality and usability.
